About Me

My photo
I currently live in Birmingham and come from Solihull. I have a love of all things crafty, developed from my mom's love of crafts as I was growing up. I currently work in marketing, but I'm a qualified Aromatherapist, and use to be self employed alongside a day job, might one day return to that. I try to fit in crafts when I can, I wish I had more time and money to spend on it! I enjoy researching my family history and finding out about the past. It can get frustrating, but is really rewarding when you have a break through! I hope to meet people with similar interests as me and swap advice/stories.

Who Do You Think You Are?

With the new series on TV I was inspired to get back and update my family history page.

Please take a look here.

Or simply click on Family History page link at the top of my blog.

I have added information regarding marriage.

Here's a few images of past weddings:

Left: Original photo of what we have deduced as my great great uncles wedding c.1921. I'll be coming back to this in a later post on 'mystery weddings' ...some mysteries over this one!
Fred Schulze - m - Marie Rieziska
Right: My grandparents wedding copy photo.
1938 John Lovelcok - m - Florence Johnson
Left: My great grandparents original wedding photo 1904
Henry Edward Smith - m - Emma Schulze
Right: Original photo. We had no notes as to who this was, but from deducations and little help we now believe these are my great great grandparents and this is an engagement photo, taken in Germany.

Bruno Schulze and Marie Justine Siebe c.1878

One thing I love about all these photos is looking at the fashions, the different styles over the years and any cultural influences/differences. It's also fun trying to see family resemblances or traits!

  1. I find all family history exciting and love it when I find a new document. I wish I could find some photos of my great grandparents but sadly we dont know of any in existence.

    1. Hi Anne, yes it's great finding new documents. As you say photos aren't easy to come by, many of these were 'forgotten' for years and we have had to deduce who they are, dates and places. Sadly there are many questions I wish we could have asked my grandparents about their families, definatley a few 'skeletons in te closet', but it seems we might never know the answers!

If you use any research websites you might just be lucky to find a distant relation. I have found one...well they found me recently and I am hoping they can tell us more about the family. If you ever wanted me to have a quick look for someone in your family just let me know!

    2. Hi Sarah, thank you for the comment over on my blog. I am a member of ancestry and my family tree is on there.I have been contacted by several people who are distant ancestors and one long lost half cousin found me and we are now in constant email contact! Thank you for offering though.
The autumn swap is being organised by Blueberry heart blog, I have put a link on my original post but I think it closes tomorrow.X

  2. You are so immensely lucky to have such an abundance of family photos (and from wedding days to boot). I'm my family's main genealogist on both sides and have yet to unearth (if they even exist) many wedding photos yet. Fingers crossed more will come to light one day.

Thank you very much for your lovely comment on my vintage outfit post this week. No, I don't believe that hat is homemade. It's from the 40s and has the look (up close) of a store bought chapeau. How wonderfully sweet of your sister to make some hats for you. I hope you'll post outfit snaps with them for us to see when the temps drop and knitted hats are a must once more.

    ♥ Jessica

  3. Great pics. My sister compiled hundreds of old family photos and scanned them to disc. I feel like I open a treasure chest every time I peek into the past. Lovely blog.
